ROME (Routing Over Mobile Environment) allows the gateway to send requests (through the sink) to sensor nodes within a WSAN island and collect sensed data from them. The protocol implements multi-hop and mobile network connectivity, and it is able to deal with node mobility and failures. The ROME protocol is composed of two parts, the Window protocol and the Data collection protocol. The Window protocol is used to disseminate requests to sensor nodes, while the Data collection is used for the converge-casting process (i.e., data gathering from sensor nodes to the sink).
